So the journey ends.

Such an abrupt end, one that I think no one saw coming, including ourselves.

Beautiful, haunting, melancholic words do nothing to soothe the burn of a sudden but deep wound.

The most we can offer right now is a thank you, for being with us for so long, your cheers and support as an audience will forever be a sweet memory laced with perhaps some pain at the thought of it all ending.

And also an apology, for not fulfilling perhaps what could've been a truly great destiny.

No good reason either can we offer for the break, except the finality of something that was truly inevitable.

How wonderful it would be to be able to choose when you die, or how you die, but just like Life, Fate offers no choice.

It has been a wonderful time, so thank you, and goodbye.

So Laundry celebrated its first anniversary with a huge she-bang, full of festival atmosphere, tons of bands rocked out a night that started and ended with a massive percussion jam session that saw the audience jump up and dance with their hands in the air... This is the magic of music... :)

We did the perenniel favourite, 'Breakfast at 6pm', sadly the person who inspired the song arrived late and missed his chance to watch for the first time the song performed live

'Thank You' used to end our sets but we had to make way for the debut of our newest tune 'Music, Yeah!', we were anxious to find out if our new 'sound' resonated with our old fans, and it did...

In no particular order we heard comments like "I like ALL your stuff", "The new song was great, but Breakfast will always be my favourite", "I DIG your new song!"... All in all, twas good... :)

A space between notes

4 months.

It seems like a really long time since we have taken to the stage as a unit sometimes known as the band, Rhapsody. :)

Conflicting schedules have been the worst of our headaches.
Nicole has a day job, and Ywenna has a night one (don't go there...;p)

We managed however to finish writing one new song yesterday, and its called "Music, yeah!", we've missed this creative process, and when you hit a sweet groove it just reminds us again how much we love doing this.

And because we're so excited about this new song, you're going to get the chance to hear us perform it for the first time ever next week, at Laundry's first anniversary gig...

And so as we plod on slowly towards our EP ambitions, be assured that we're tinkering with the instruments of love to produce the sublime notes of ecstasy, in hopes of doing what we were born to do: make music.

The Penang Island Jazz Festival 2006 was UNBELIVABLE!!!

It's been officially one week since we first headed out on our journey to the Penang Island Jazz Fest 2006...

Blame us for the lack of sleep and busy schedules but the fact that we were actually going to the fest didn't quite hit us, which in retrospect was a good thing, because when we got onto the bus and eyed all those instrument cases that the other musicians were loading, we turned and looked each other in the eye, and realised that : "Man. We. Are. SOOOOOO. Going. To. The Festival. Dude." ;p

This was our first proper festival, and the buzz in the air was unmistakble. I guess when you house this whole troupe of musicians from all over the planet together, there's bound to be tons of excitement!

We don't know how to start thanking everyone who helped make this festival the bestest ever, but we're going to try anyway!

1. Uncle Paul - Thanks for coming to check us out at KL Sing Song 2006. Thanks for thinking we sounded interesting enough for the fest. Thanks for inviting us to play. Thanks for being our 'second father' and taking good care of us at the fest. Without you, there wouldnt be anything to begin with and we're so happy and grateful to be part of that Penang Island Jazz Fest experience!

2. Kevin aka Loon Loon - For liking us enough to wanna play with us in the first place, and for sticking with us for so long, we love you and those faces you make while playing your bass!

3. Justin - Thanks for agreeing to jam with us, staying up late both nights to make sure we did a good job, and just for being that wonderful, talented, funny guy that you are!

4. Gigi - Thanks for jumping in last minute on our first performance, and thanks for plodding on even when the songs refused to go into your head!

5. Maxine - Thanks for taking good care of us on the trip, though you had a migraine and had to entertain multiple requests from the other passengers! ;p

6. Denise (and Sal) - This true goddess showed us what it was like to truly 'do your thang', because all it takes is belief in yourself and a whole lot of luuuuurve!

7. Brian - Thanks for making us laugh and keeping us company the entire time! If we went to the festival and came back with only your friendship it would be worth it! :)

8. Young Do - Thanks for being the funniest guy at the fest, amd helping us exercise our lungs while laughing with you all the time! :)

9. Uncle Lewis, Uncle Andy, John Kaizan - For your encouragement and support, because it really means a lot to us when you show us the way to get there, is just by loving what you do... :)

10. All the performers No Age Limit, Albert & Badar, Java Five, Seo Young Do Trio, Farid Ali & Roger Wang, James Boyle and the Ragged Tigers etc etc - Thanks for playing your hearts out because you guys made the festival DA BOMB!

11. All the people behind the scenes (you know who you are) - Thanks for your labor of love, your salty sweat and puffy eyes, because you were the clockwork behidn the entire festival, giving everyone the best times of their lives!

12. All the people who gave us pats on the back, who grooved to our songs, who came and just listened to our music - It's because of you that we're even more in love with what we do!

But seriously, I think we're making plans to come back next year as volunteers, even it was only for the good food they had in Penang! HAHAHA.

The Penang Island Jazz Festival (2006) was officially launched last Friday, Oct 27, 2006 at Bangkok Jazz.

Organised by Capricorn Connections and presented by Daimler Chrysler, the 3rd edition of the Festival runs from 30th November till 3rd December 2006 once again at the Bayview Beach Resort in Batu Ferringhi, on the beautiful tropical island of Penang.

And we thought Reza, the organizer of Moonshine was sick and tired of us pouncing on him everytime we see him, well not exactly lah but you get what we're saying! :)

We've said time and again, how our first big break came from the first Moonshine Reza ever organized at No Black Tie, we had a magical time, and we've been more than happy to say yes to subsequent Moonshines, and this will be our third, you know what the old cliches say, Third times the charm, which means that only more good things will happen on Thursday!

Featuring Stoned Revivals, Sei Hon, Lightcraft, RHAPSODYand Tragicomedy, this will be the first time a foreign band (Stoned Revivals) will be in the Moonshine line-up, growing steam from each edition, it looks like Moonshine can only grow bigger, badder, and better!

So we were starbucked, and starbuck we did. Ok, that sounds like an
idiotic statement, just goes to show how dumb I've become of late! ;p

So to save myself from more verbal embarassment, I shall let the

We managed to borrow Alda from Kevin for all three gigs, because
Rhapsody and BrokenScar were billed together for all 3 of our Starbucks gigs.

We'd like to say thanks to those who came, old friends, those who
joined our mailing list (hehe) and I think Soraya deserves a mention,
for catching us at all 3 gigs, and pimping us to her friends. Thanks

Pudu in Pajamas

Yes. We were in Puduraya in our pajamas.

There. Proof. :) We were there at 7am for the KL Sing Song shoot, with the crew Mien, Effa(not in picture), and Chito (don't think this is the correct way its spelt. hehe)

As you can see, Ywenna and Nicole are not quite awake.

We managed to wrap it up within an hour, and caused quite a little stir, with the semi-stripteases we provided to the audience made up of meddling taxi drivers, bus passengers, backpackers and just the normal man on the street lounging at Pudu at 7 in the morning.

Can't wait to see the video in its entirety. :)

S.I.Z.Z.L.I.N.G

That describes our two sets at No Black Tie, 12th July 2006, Wednesday.

Okay, okay, so this post is late, but we had a packed week and I was sorta hoping for more pictures, but thanks to Effa, wait no more...

We started off with a whole set of covers.Perhaps it was the nerves. Perhaps it was just distracting having to read the lyrics, but we ran through the set like fire was on our asses!

Took a break, while The Sofa Sessions took the stage, kudos to them for taking Jimmy's good-natured heckling well. Then it was our turn again. I have to say, there's no feeling in the world like grooving to your own songs. :)

Sing Song Ecstasy

Was KL Sing Song 2006 the bomb, or was it the bomb?

We think it was very much the most fun we've had at a gig. We were part of the first act which included BrokenScar, and Ariff Akhir of The Sofa Sessions. We played round robin style, which was a nice change from the usual format.

The attentiveness of the audience was mesmerizing, and BrokenScar started off with his rousing song 'Scratch", by the time the second round came along, we were joking and laughing, quite forgetting that we were on stage.

Ariff is hilarious. And that's an understatement, Nicole's attempts to help him control the clapping resulted in stomach-holding, jaw-aching laughter. And everything was just smooth sailing and fun after that...

Meor, Pete Teo and Mei Chern were up for the second set, and it was a pretty intense set, but the audience had a lot of fun anyway, if the clapping and cheering were anythign to go by...

All in all, Kl Sing Song was just amazing, and most importantly, FUN! (We know we keep repeating that, but it really was that fun!) :)

So here's a last pic of the performers and friends, to remember that day, and to make those who weren't there wish they had made it! (sorry, we're evil, hehe)

KL SING SONG 2006

We're the first act up on Sat, 15th July 2006, at 8.30pm, so make sure you're not late! By the way, it's at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center if you can't see the flyer clearly. We get to perform 3 songs and then it's all sit back and relax as we enjoy songs from other performers like Broken Scar, Mei Chern, Pete Teo etc.

KL Sing Song is such a fantastic platform and we're extremely honored and pleased to be given the chance to be part of it, considering the fact that we're quite new on the scene, just passed the six-month mark. So a HUGE thank you to the Troubadours team! :)

Featuring the line up of RHAPSODY for Double Bill Night(8pm) at No
Black Tie(Lorong Mesui, off Jln Nagasari, behind Istana Hotel) this
coming Wednesday(12th July 2006)

Kevin Theseira, or more commonly known as "Ah Loon" to his close
friends, is the bassist of Qings and Kueens, and lends his touch to other bands, and one of the lucky ones just happen to be,Rhapsody. ☺ Kevin wields 'Gabriella', his affectionately named double
bass with panache, while effortlessly dancing his fingers across his
electric bass, adding and interesting texture to Rhapsody's sound.
Kevin is the perfect dining companion but has lately taken to
controlling his baser instincts.

Ywenna Carollin, the music maker behind Rhapsody. Her insatiable appetite for food and music is legendary. So are her infamous elf-like ears, which have been
praised incessantly by not-so-secret admirers of the ear fetish kind,
which has resulted in Ywenna tucking back her hair to proudly display
her ears while playing the keyboard, in hopes of gaining a new admirer
or two. A hard critic with a sharp ear (all puns intended), Ywenna
constantly strives to take Rhapsody to better musical heights.

Nicole Foo, who harbours a secret desire to marry a man called Javier (who's a figment of her over-active imagination) is the lyrical force behind Rhapsody. She resorts to playing with the dog when she feels overwhelmed by the technical musical discussions, however, with her lovely voice as her saving grace, she practises singing in showers, bus stops and LRT stations, hoping to spread Rhapsody's music far and wide, subliminally. Nicole never says no to nice tunes or dark chocolate, calamari, broccoli and jelly.

Jimmy Tan, is the beat master of Tempered Mental, while plying his drumsticks with other highly reputable music makers, Rhapsody is honored to have him keeping us in rhythm. An easygoing guy, who has
his obsessive-compulsive moments, Jimmy loves his pork like his life.
With a tendency to carry on conversations long after the conversation
has purportedly ended, Jimmy's voracious hunger for great music and
food fits perfectly with Rhapsody's philosophy towards life: "Love
good music. Love good food."

Oh what happiness is bubbling over me!

Mr. Ramo (web designer extraordinaire and very very very good friend), who is working on the official Rhapsody website, had uploaded the stuff he's done so far onto the clientpseak page.

Ywenna and I have taken a look at it and we love it! So by a chance meeting last night on msn, we proceeded to discuss in detail what else needs to be done. Boy oh boy, am i excited! We came up with quite a few changes, and suggestions, and things look like they're going to be even more fantastic!!

I'm going to take this opportunity again to everyone who're helping us reach our dreams. It's just so humbling to see your friends believe in you enough to spend their time, energy and love, helping in the ways they know best. And Ywenna and I are beyond grateful.

Chicks Night Out

Hey we just came back from the gig at KL Jam Asia.

It was kinda weird at first cuz we were the only non-rock band there! But who cares right? Music is music. :)

We were up first, which was a good thing.

Dipha was with us today, which I liked very much, because he just adds texture to our already amazing sound. (So sue us. We love our music and are not shy about it. haha.)

We did 'Thank you', then the samba-ed version of 'Still Smiling', 'Breakfast at 6pm', and 'So Scared'. Then it was time for ze coverrrrrssss....
Because Dipha was here, we took the opportunity of covering Jobim's 'Triste', fantastic song, though perhaps the vibe wasn't quite right. Then we ended our set with John Mayer and Herbie Hancock's 'Stitched Up'. Freaking love that song.

The audience was quite appreciative, though it helped to know that we had genuine fans in the audience, who have supported us since day one. Thanks guys... :) (You know who you are, so we won't name names....: )

Plush was up next. What a tight band. Wish the mic for the Izwin the vocalist was louder though, her nice tone was drowned out by her fantastic band.
Tempered Mental was up next. Need I say more bout this band?

Unfortunately, at this point, we had to leave so we had no chance to catch the other acts, though one group looked quite interesting, with the prerequisite rocker outfits and dark makeup. But personally, it's so much nicer to look at a modest, unassuming, 'normally' dressed band, and let them wow you with just their music alone.

But maybe that's just us. :)

It was good fun. And a shout out to Alda for having us. And we hope to be jamming with a drummer soon, if the talks work out.... :)

Ahmed, Rafay and Noori, rushed into KL for an emergency photo shoot. We had to send our bio and pics for some gigs and the stuff we had was just not good enough. It's nice having good friends who are avid photographers and are actually pretty darn good in what they do! :)

Did we have a blast or did we have a blast?

Besides the nice venue (despite the nipple-baring cold), good acoustics and appreciative audience, i think we enjoyed our chums the most...

If you were there, then you know that Alda, Kevin, Reza and we were guest performers on Melina's last song. Blast Reza and Ywenna who had a guitar and keyboard to hide behind respectively. Blast Alda who chickened out by sittig next to Reza pretending to be a Greek statue, but thanks to Kevin who didn't leave me to do the interpretative dance alone. Though i must say, Kevin's dance was just fantastic. Someone;s got it on video, but whether or not it will be released for public viewing is yet to be determined. he. he. he.

We're quite new in this music scene, as we only started gigging in November last year, but we've grown to love the people involved in it. Everyone's a chum. :)

So Ywenna and Nicole would just like to shout out to Izzy for organizing this and inviting us, Zal, Gerald, Alda, Kevin, Reza, and last but not least Melina(for making us dance). Thanks for just being who you are.

We had the time of our lives. :)

To make up for no exciting things happening during this whole holiday period, I thought it would be good to post up the lyrics of some of our half-written songs. This is a personal favourite. Ywenna played this haunting beautiful melody while we were jamming one day, and we recorded about 30 seconds of it, well cuz that's all that she had at that point. So I listened to it over and over again, and I realised I couldn't write about anything else to match the power and poignancy of the melody, I really hope we manage to finish writing this song, cuz i know it will just be amazing. Us? Well, so so. Still not enough to work on that album. :) But if there's a will, there's a way, so we'll just have to wait till a distant rich relative dies and names us as main benefactors in the will, THEN there's the way!

If you notice, all our pictures are 'sourced' from elsewhere. And if you're smart you'll probably figure out that we don't own a digital camera. Donations, anyone? :)

2005 was an amazing year.

Yes, we have been hatching a plot to take over the world ever since we were in high school, but the seed only started to sprout into a bud early last year. It sounds totally cliche but it was a scene right out of a movie. Imagine. KLCC at night, as we made a decision to take our music seriously, fountains sprang up high into the dark sky, we could almost hear violins in the background as tears slid down our cheeks.... (told you it's cheesy)

So we started to write more original stuff, cuz so far we had only a few songs, among them was 'So Scared', the first song we ever wrote together in 2003 if you've been to our gigs, you'll also notice that it's a firm favourite, i guess the first ones are always hard to let go of... :) The other songs we had were stuff created for a theater play and a short film. We loved them of course, but they weren't exactly suited for playing live. So we set out to make more music.

It was amazing how smoothly things flowed to enable us to create more songs that we could call ours. Proud parents of beautiful babies. :)

Open mic at No Black Tie opened the door. You don't know how estastic we are to be able to say that we started out at No Black Tie, following the footsteps of other brilliant musicians...

Currently we have no gigs lined up for the new year. Yet. But as we work quietly to fulfill our aspirations, we wonder how many people are standing in our shoes, looking up towards the sky, wishing apon the stars that we will become the lucky few who have their dreams come true.

What makes them go on? What makes US dare to hope?

Faith.

That there really is magic in this world, but only if you believe in yourself and what you do.

So as we take a step, and a few more into the unknown, we keep our hearts open to love and to the little miracles that make up life...

Open Mic @ Moonshine

January 5th 2006, Ywenna and Nicole trudged along to Moonshine, the January installment, all excited to see the line-up which had Aminah, Az Samad, and Shelley Leong in it, among others...

We were late and managed just to catch the last song of Aminah's set, but that song was enough to convince us to buy her cd. Ywenna met Eugene for the first time, after hearing about him and reading his site All Dat Jazz.

Reza insisted that we do two songs for open mic, and of course we obliged (happily too!), we did 'So Scared' and a song we'd just finished writing a few hours before coming to Moonshine, in which case, we forgot to name it!! The full capacity crowd had dwindled to less than 5 tables by the time we took to the stage, but we did hear a few enthusiastic shouts courtesy of Reza, but then again, he's biased. Haha.

We were invited to perform at Troubaganger at La Bodega on Nov 20 2005. Our first real gig. Yay!

This time we invited our beloved sessionist Dipha Kresna to join us.

Here's a look at us idling our time away at La Bodega waiting for the soundcheck (l-r Ywenna, Nicole, Dipha)...

Sad to say, we weren't in tiptop condition, as Nicole had a sore throat from a lingering flu, and Dipha was hardly recovering from a mystery illness which involved chest pains.

We were the first act and performed only 3 songs, Still Smiling, Learn (a song written by Dipha), and So Scared. Nicole was hacking away with her cough in between, and even during songs!

And we weren't really feeling in sync as this picture probably shows... (Ywenna and Nicole looking away from each other)

Rhapsody's Debut

We know these upcoming posts are overdue, but we had to start from scratch so.

Rhapsody was slated to make their official debut on October 20, 2005 at Ikano Power Center, in the Starbucks Music Series, playing alongside Jerome Kugan and Izzy. Emails, sms-es, bulletins were sent, friends were constantly pestered, and everyone was extremely psyched for the big day.

Again, as fate would have it, our beloved Prime Minister's wife passed away, and our big debut was cancelled.

Needless to say, everyone was bummed, most of all, ourselves, of course. Now we know what a deflated balloon feels like. :/

Then a friend, Broken Scar was playing a gig at the newly reopened No Black Tie, alongside many artistes, including Sei Hon, Shannon Shah, Jasemaine Gan, Jerome Kugan, Izzy etc.

Nicole had this really strong gut feeling that they should head to NoBlackTie, but Ywenna had previous engagements that she couldn't wriggle out from.

Again and again, as fate would have it, Ywenna's thing got cancelled and she showed up at NoBlackTie. The gig was great, lots of good artistes with good music.

and surprise, surprise, we went up for open mic. Unprepared, we were quite nervous. Ywenna was wearing glasses and complained that she was ugly, Nicole was so nervous that her teeth were chattering (what stage presence again?)

But the audience were so kind they gave us an encore, and so unplanned, unprepared, Rhapsody made their debut at No Black Tie, Musicians' and Music Lovers' Paradise...

Our humble beginnings...

Back in those days, where high school uniforms made you look frumpy, you had bad hair, ugly braces and big ass plastic nerdville glasses....

Nicole was sitting in the music room one day, reading as usual. Suddenly this girl came into the room, didn't see Nicole because she was hidden behind the piano. So this chick, started playing the piano, and Nicole was spellbound. So Nicole told the girl she was good, but she got a 'who-are-you' look in return..

But as fate would have it, Nicole became the conductor of the school choir, and the chick, Ywenna, became the accompanist, after every choir practice, when everyone went home, they would play and sing in the music room, talk, laugh and dream of the day they would make music together...

Forward 7 years, and here's Rhapsody.
The girls are still dreaming and still making music, and they hope they'll never stop. Because believing in your dreams and making them come true is the best gift that anyone can ask for, and they are grateful for the blessings that they have received.
